I just got this email from my aunt, and thought I'd pass it on.
Some interesting Information......
For Canadians living in Canada, this may be useful information to remember.
Subject: #77 on your cell phone
Lauren was 19 yr. old and in college. This story takes place over the Christmas/New Year's holiday break. It was the Saturday before New Year's and it was about 1PM in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have 4 children (high school and college age) and have always told them never to pull over for an unmarked car on
the side of the road, but rather wait until they get a gas station, etc., so Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called #77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there wasn't and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way. Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him
to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew about the #77 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a "safe" place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e. put on your hazard lights) or call #77 like Lauren did.
Too bad the cell phone companies don't give you this little bit of wonderful information. So now it's your turn to let your friends know about #77.
Send this to every person you know, it may save their life.
PS: This happened to a woman just off #1 highway, east of Calgary in a similar incident as the above. She wasn't this lucky, she was caught and murdered. This happened about two years ago, late one evening when she was going home from work (lived on an acreage NE of Calgary). And also in light of the recent attacks/assaults in the Kamloops area - you just never know. Pass it on.
I never would have thought of an unmarked police car being dangerous. And that's a useful cell phone service for sure!
only canadians hell! I'm telling my daughters tonight not to pull over for an unmarked and call 911 and advise that they'll be heading some place safe. dont know if we have any special number to call, but I know that people have posed as cops and done stuff like that here in the states. fucking perverts. wish I could pass judgement on administer their punishment. they'd never attack another person again if so.
It's pretty scary to think that it's that easy to impersonate someone that you are supposed to trust.
It's nice to know that the police are supposed to respect your right to go to a safe place.
It is also recommended that everyone create "ICE" numbers on their cellphones and spread the word on the concept so that it becomes a standard practice.
If you are ever in an accident or are suddenly incapacitated, anybody looking on your cellphone can scroll to your ICE number or numbers (ICE1, ICE2, ICE3...) to notify family members of the situation.

yeah, hopefully you wont get some over egoed, easily aggrivated cop that will make it a felony take down because you didnt stop right away

I know that stuff does happen. seen a couple of them on Americas Most Wanted before. so the letter might be a hoax, but there is some truth to parts of it
Was this a report from the local news or an email passed from a friend of a friend of a friend?
"Bad Cop" and "Who's in the Back Seat" story variations go back to the 50's and 60's.
Using common sense and having a cell phone with you will protect you more than an urban legend email warning.
